Apple reportedly scales back Vision Pro shipments as demand falls “sharply”

Apple has seen Vision Pro demand fall “sharply beyond expectations” in the US

Apple have dramatically reduced their sales expectations for their $3,500 Vision Pro headset, at least according to Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In the US market, demand for the expensive headset has reportedly “fallen sharply beyond expectations”. This has forced Apple to be more conservative when considering future, non-US, sales.

Vision Pro headset shipments have been cut to 400-450K units from an expected 700-800K units. Apple are currently expected to launch their Vision Pro headset to new markets at their June Worldwide Developers Conference. This would see the headset come to several new markets within a month of the reveal.

Apple are also expecting Vision headset sales to decrease year-over-year in 2025. Apple are reportedly not planning to release a new/revised headset model in 2025. Currently, Apple are not expected to make significant changes to their headset until 2027. Until then, any changes will not do much to change the product’s specifications or user expereince.

It is believed that a lack of key applications, high pricing, and user comfort are all factors that are preventing further headset sales. With an asking price of $3,500, it is easy to see why the headset is unappealing to most consumers. Apple’s revised sales predictions will have a knock-on effect on the growth of several key technologies within the headset. This includes the headset’ pancake lenses and microOLED displays.
