MSI GE62VR Apache Pro Gaming Laptop Review

Introduction

The MSI laptop range is one that has a model to suit seemingly every taste and pocket. We've tested the majority of them here at OC3D, but today's review is of something a little special. The first Pascal GPU equipped laptop we've reviewed.

By hitting upon a winning formula early MSI almost have a set of rules that their laptops must follow. So we've got a fairly standard chassis - although the GE62VR seems both lighter and thinner than many we've looked at - paired with a RGB Steelseries keyboard, all the latest hardware technologies and a combination between a fast OS drive and a big storage drive. Networking is handled by the ever popular KillerNIC and fast WiFi, whilst the whole thing is underpinned by an Intel Core i7 processor to handle those demanding tasks.

What separates the Apache Pro from the competition has to be the inclusion of an nVidia GTX 1060 GPU. Mobile gaming has always been performed on cut-down versions of the desktop cards, but with the Pascal GPU nVidia have used their hard work in power efficiency improvements to ensure that even laptops come with full fat GPUs.

As always we'll give you a quick rundown of the looks and software, before delving into our benchmark suite.
