Crucial BX100 1TB SSD Review
Sometimes a product appears which sells itself. The Crucial BX100 1TB SSD is one such product.
With SSDs you often find the headline grabbing figures are the read speeds, sometimes they're the write speeds. With the Crucial BX100 the headline figures are as follows :
A One Terabyte Solid State Drive for under £300.
Let's just take a moment to let that sink in. 30 pence per gigabyte. A drive large enough to hold your operating system, and a big selection of games, and applications, for under three hundred notes.
If you aren't already running out the door, cash in hand, then why are you here? Even if it was slow by SSD standards it's still big enough and cheap enough to justify the purchase. Whereas it isn't only those things. It has a good turn of speed too. Sure it's not the fastest drive on the block, but the claimed figures by Crucial roughly match those that we saw in our testing.
The days when you had to choose between a drive large enough to hold your games, or one quick enough to not leave you dying of boredom when trying to do anything are behind us. A new era of affordable drives is upon us and the Crucial range are leading the charge.
In time we'll find drives that have the combination of capacity and blistering speed, but the Crucial BX100 is a large step on that road and wins our OC3D Value For Money award.
Thanks to Crucial for supplying the BX100 for today's review. Discuss your thoughts in the OC3D Forums.
