The Division 2 PC Performance Review

Graphics Settings and Options

Ubisoft's The Division 2 offers PC gamers a wealth of graphical options, so much so that the game can feel downright daunting to the uninitiated. In the game's basic graphical options menu there are well over 20 options, giving PC gamers a variety of ways to boost the game's performance or up the title's visuals.

By default, The Division 2 activates V-Sync on PC on all presets, a move which undoubtedly seem annoying to many PC gamers, especially for those who dislike the feature or make use of a variable refresh rate monitor. Yes, a lock framerate at your display's refresh rate is a great experience, but many PC gamers would prefer for V-Sync to be outside of The Division 2's graphical presets.

Like most modern PC games, The Division 2 offers a form of resolution scaling, but unlike other releases like Far Cry 5 and Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, this game lacks a variable resolution mode, a mode which allows the game's internal resolution to change on the fly to meet specific framerate targets. Such an option would have been useful here, but at this time it is unknown if the game's SnowDrop Engine supports the feature.

For the most part, PC gamers should aim for The Division 2's High preset, upping Anisotropic Filtering to 16x due to the low-performance impact of the feature. Sharpening should be adjusted depending on player preference, but the game's default value of 7 offers a great balance. You will see over the next few pages that it is hard to spot the difference between High and Ultra outside of distant geometry.

One annoying aspect of The Division 2 is that a large number of the game's graphical settings require a system reboot, which makes settings adjustment a tedious process.

I've got mine on ultra @1440p. Initially I put it on 1080p, but I was getting huge dips in frames when going from inside levels to outside. Like, 110FPS down to 30. I set it to 1440p, now it's like 80 inside and 40 outside. I would guess it's my low clocked CPU causing the anomaly.

Great game, and so much better than the first. The drone is the stuff of legend. It's just an absolute riot throwing it up in the air and then sending it around to bother people. It also acts as brilliant cover fire to stop them firing at you Quote

Yeah, that sounds like low CPU clocks. This thing scales to a lot of cores, but single-threaded performance is a great thing to have.Quote

I let nvidia decide it put me on med high mixture, but I don't think SLI is supported which sucks for me since I'm 970 sli, it runs fine but normally I'd be able to play max and get similar framerate and something tells me it won't get added, only found out since it was set to single card in global settings and if I put it on afr2 it didn't sync correctly but maybe a fix will happen.

My ryzen is barely breaking a sweat in games hardly ever gets to 30% load it's so nice to have a chip that really can handle multi tasking.Quote

its been cpu bottlenecking. Im getting those dips on any setting.

the skills bug though is downright annoying. Worse than most of the crap in Anthem.
I use shield, run it and it despawns...

Same with most skills, they just disappear and go on a 15sec timer. Luckily Massive are investigating, but it ruins the fun of skill use so much.Quote

Hmm. I've had so much fun with the turret and drone I've not tried any other skills yet. The drone and turret don't last long if you don't keep them moving. They will get shot down. The art is hiding and letting them rip, continually using a RB and LB to switch targets. Then when they do break I just pop up with my big sod off machine gun and mop up.Quote
