Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB DDR5 5600MHz White Preview

Introduction

Normally at this time of year we’re shutting up the OC3D office for a well deserved rest and a chance to drink a barrel of port and eat enough mince pies to choke a hippo to death. After all, it’s that festive time of year and we’ve been run ragged this year attempting to get things to review. If the catastrophe of Brexit wasn’t bad enough, the pandemic that has swept the world has only exacerbated this problem. Naturally reviewing stuff is a first world problem with people struggling to see their loved ones, but nonetheless the chance to put our feet up in a paper hat with some Bond film on the box is one we’ll gladly take.

Then the newest Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR5 kit arrived through the door. Usually we’d put it on the to-do pile and deal with it in our post-Xmas state of being unable to move due to over-consumption, but as soon as we saw the colour choice we knew we had to preview it. Not only is it that most festive of colours – white – that made us think of snowmen and cake icing, but it is accented with gold. Having a third of the gifts of the wise men on hand was a sign that we had to put down our cocktail sausages and run off some photographs for you to enjoy, before we came back in the post-festive period with some benchmark results.

By now you’ll be familiar with the fame of the Corsair Dominator Platinum memory options, so numerous and capable are they, and with the DDR5 5600MHz kit we have here we have whispered promises of high performance. Although DDR5 timings are slower, and thus have more latency, than their DDR4 forebears we know that raw speed can overcome such issues. If they couldn’t we’d all still be on CAS3 DDR1. So grab your favourite tipple and foodstuff on a stick and enjoy the last preview we will be bringing you before we’re all undoing our belts and having another slice of cake.
