Steelseries Rival 500 Gaming Mouse Review

Steelseries Rival 500 Gaming Mouse Review

Introduction

We recently reviewed the Steelseries Rival 700 Gaming mouse and found it to be an exceptional take on the genre. With superb lighting, swappable components, an OLED display and vibration feedback, it moved the gaming mouse goalposts considerably further on.

Indeed about the only thing it was lacking was lots of buttons for the MMO/MOBA crowd. Something that today’s review, the Rival 500, rectifies. It still has the RGB lighting, it still has a beastly 16000 CPI sensor, and it still has the ‘much more useful than it sounds’ vibration feedback.

So if you’re in the market for a multi-button mouse, but have grown tired of the “key pad on the side” style, then maybe the Rival 500 can be just what you’re after.

Technical Specifications

With any gaming rodent the two most important elements are the type of sensor and how many buttons it has. The Rival 500 is well equipped in both these categories. Firstly the sensor is the lauded PixArt PMW3360. With up to 50g acceleration matched up to a CPI that goes from a lowly 100 CPI to a sky-high 16000 CPI you can be sure to find a sensitivity to suit your tastes. Add that to RGB lighting, multiple texture types to keep the Rival 500 under your control at all times and fifteen buttons and there is no doubt that even the most demanding user will have enough customisation options to keep them happy.
