VRMARK - Orange Room Test
VRMARK has two dedicated tests, the first of which is the Orange Room test, which is available in both the Free version of VRMARK and the paid for advanced version. Below is a graph showcasing performance results from out GPU test system with a selection of current generation and previous generation GPUs.
We can see below that we have also included results from Futuremark for an Oculus Rift Ready PC and an HTC Vive/VR Ready PC, with scores of 3716 and 5000 respectively. We can see that modern GPUs like the RX 480 Strix and the GTX 1060 Strix easily meet the requirements for VR, with lower end hardware like the GTX 960 and the R9 380 meeting the requirements for the Oculus Rift.
In general, it seems that on the high end that VRMARK favours Nvidia hardware, with the GTX 1060 beating the RX 480 and the GTX 980Ti beating the R9 Fury X, though all of these GPUs can be considered VR ready for both the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
We can see that going past the GTX 980Ti that we see very little performance gain moving to newer and more powerful GPUs, hinting that CPU performance may be becoming a limiting factor. That being said the framerates coming from these GPUs are well over 180FPS on average, which is well in excess of what is required for VR gaming.
