No Man's Sky PC Performance Review

Graphical Changes and VRAM usage

Once we started testing one thing was immediately apparent, at ultra settings the game ran much slower meaning that Hello Games have managed to make the game worse, right? Wrong, on day 1 the PC version of the game did not have fully functioning SSAA, which did not apply properly in the game and therefore did not have any performance impact.

Now SSAA X4 applies normally, having a huge impact on performance and VRAM usage. Hopefully, Hello Games will introduce a 2x SSAA option in the future for more variety, but at least the game's AA does work properly now.

As we can see in the graph below at all settings except for Ultra VRAM usage is down slightly over the day-1 version of the game with the exception of Ultra, which sees an increase of around 700MB. This increase in VRAM usage is due to SSAA.

So yes it did improve, but it's still not great. Better than nothing and just means they should have delayed the game a week to get around all this press.

Also, on the first page it says 1080 instead of 1070(under the picture). Just thought worth mentioning as I got confusedQuote

I dont think performance improvement is going to help the sheer amount of features that have been changed last minute or are missing entirely.Quote

True but it's a step in the right direction at least, even if it's not what it should have beenQuote
