MSI Optix MPG341CQR Curved Monitor Review

MSI Optix MPG341CQR Curved Monitor Review

Introduction

It doesn’t feel all that long ago when my first flat panel display was a 4:3, and thanks to the long lasting legacy of CRT displays, most games and monitors were 4:3 for the longest time. Widescreen is clearly a better choice though, being more suited to modern media playback whilst also bringing the benefits of a more natural field of view when gaming. If 4:3 felt like you had your head in a box, then 16:9 was the world of sweeping vistas and a more human eye take on things.

Like everything in the hardware world, if big is good then bigger must be better. Like a few display panels before it the one we have up for review today, the MSI Optix MPG341CQR is an ultra-wide panel sporting a 21:9 display giving you the ultimate viewing experience whilst also allowing those of us who rely upon multi-monitor setups to get a similar level of screenspace without the awkwardness of arranging umpteen monitors on your desk. In fact this particular display has an option that gives you all the benefits of a regular wide screen panel but still leaving some room for extra applications to be constantly in view. We’ll get to that in a moment. The other thing it brings to the table is a curved screen. Normally the preserve of massive televisions it’s something which is actually a boon on such a wide display.

Have a quick run through the specifications and then we’ll move on to seeing the lengthily named MPG341CQR in the flesh.
