Nobody likes a show off, but we think that a large part of buying a new piece of hardware is how much it's obviously new, and therefore you can wow your friends and annoy your enemies by flashing it to the world. The GTX 1080 Ti Gaming X is visually so similar to the GTX 1080 Gaming X, and all the preceding models right back to the two and a half year old GTX 980, that it's difficult to get overly excited about it. You just can't tell it's something new. Yes, if it isn't broken you shouldn't fix it, but equally two and a half years in computer terms is a lifetime, so if it is new you should in some way demonstrate that fact.

Making an all black version would look so much better, RGB would actually make sense then.

Those little components that you didn't know about Tom, are phase doublers. Controller drives 8 phases that are then doubled to 16 for better power delivery, load and heat distribution, therefore requiring less cooling.
