DOOM PC Performance Review

1440p Testing with AMD R9 Fury X and Nvidia GTX 980Ti
One thing to note before we start is that DOOM runs on a different version of the Khronos Group's OpenGL API, with AMD GPUs running on OpenGL version 4.3 and Nvidia running on the newer version 4.3. This means that comparing AMD and Nvidia GPUs in this game isn't a true apples-to-apples comparison
The game will be patched to support the new Khronos Group's new Vulkan API, so hopefully we will be able to give this game a truer comparison when that version of the game releases.
At 1440p AMD's R9 Fury X becomes much more competitive with Nvidia's GTX 980Ti, giving comparable performance up until Ultra settings. Nvidia still has the edge here, but gameplay feels pretty much identical.
Up until Ultra settings both GPUs are able to maintain 70+ FPS averages, which will be more than enough to play this game at a steady speed.
