Game Testing - Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
At launch Gear of War Ultimate Edition was a mess on PC, with the game performing badly on most AMD hardware and starting major arguments all over the internet over being a Microsoft Store exclusive title under the Universal Windows Platform.
Since then thanks to several game patches Gear of War: Ultimate Edition now performs a lot better on both AMD and Nvidia hardware, though it still has the disadvantages given to it being a UWP application.
We will be testing this game with AMD's 16.3.2 driver, which was the first AMD optimised driver for the game, which is less than a month old.
4K Testing
When comparing the two drivers we can see that AMD's R9 Fury X gains just over 4% more performance with this new driver, which is quite a nice gain considering that only the GPU driver has changed here.
When looking at the performance of Nvidia's GTX 980Ti we can see that AMD has a significant performance lead when running the game at 4K High settings, not bad considering that this game uses Nvidia GameWorks.

Is this the driver that increases DX12 performance? I didn't find that info in the driver release notes?

AMD were nice enough to give us this driver early saying little more than that it contained new DirectX 12 optimizations, so we spent a lot of time testing it and low and behold we got a performance gain in every DirectX 12 game we tried.
While the performance gains are not massive, around 3-5% in most cases, they are very welcome. We expect that AMD are working on more optimizations for future releases, they want the best DX12 performance for when then next generation of products release.Quote
DX11 and it's limitations will remain with us for some time...Quote

The main thing about this driver is the enhanced CF profiles for the Radeon Pro Duo, but it does offer more than what the release notes say.
