8800GTS shootout - XFX 8800GTS XXX vs Gainward 8800GTS "Golden Sample"

To overclock both of these top-end GPU's I used Rivatuner 2 final release. No voltage tweaking or modding was done to the cards either to give them an extra edge.

I then ran a benchmark of 3DMark06 to ensure stability and give you an idea of what sort of an increase you are looking at.

Here are the results:

8800gts shootout overclocks

As you can see the Gainward card overclocked a hell of a lot more than the XFX card, managing a 19% increase in core clock speeds and 14% memory speed increase. That means that each card got:

Gainward overclocked speeds: 656/1007
XFX overclocked speeds: 620/1007

XFX performed pretty well on the memory side but the core really wouldn't stretch any further. However let's see what this really adds up to in a benchmark situation:

3DMark06 overclocked performance

Here's what the cards got:

The XFX card still managed to outgun the Gainward card, even after having a lot higher clock speeds. The clocking up of the stream processors by XFX is really showing as the difference in performance between the cards.

nice review kemp =P

@ markkleb out of the box, GTX is better, GTS stock is 500 whereas GTX is 550-575. I dont think price/performance wise thou a GTX is worth more to get.Quote
