Maybe we're getting old, or maybe words have changed their meanings, but when we hear the word Ultra we assume it is at the very peak of things. Certainly above Super. Which makes the decision by Gigabyte to use only four SATA ports horizontally and have two vertical SATA headers - something which should have been consigned to history at the same time as the Penny Farthing - completely baffling. Right next to the very latest high bandwidth U.2 connector there are two vertical SATA connectors. Madness. Similarly odd decisions appear everywhere. There are loads of fan headers, all of which are of the hybrid style, but none of them are specifically labelled as being for your AIO pump beyond one right at the bottom by the front panel connectors. Likewise this is the Ultra Gaming, but only two of the three PCI Express slots have the reinforcing armour. There is loads to like here, but also a fair few things that make us scratch our heads.

It's an improvement but what kills it is RGB lighting.

IMO there's nothing wrong with a plain black motherboard with no RGB lighting.Quote

Wonder how long before someone jumps on this stating "looks good but has RGB lighting so will not buy".

I think we are at a point where the additional cost of rgb led is totally negligible and is used as a selling factor now. It's so common place these days.

I've been looking at this one and the new RoG IX. Both look very appealing.Quote

actually enjoying the RGB on the board I have mine set for cpu temp. I'm liking it so much I'm strongly considering a case change to the Crystal 570X with some of the Corsair RGB fans.Quote

I have been using RGB LEDs for years and they lose their magic after about a day.

Mine are active too, so interact with games and stuff too. IE in Dying Light and the Metro games if I turn on a flashlight they all turn white. If you fall from a decent height they pulse red and if you have a zombie after you they turn green.

All great fun for about ten minutes.Quote
