ASUS Z97 Pro Gamer Motherboard Review
Glancing at the packaging you would be forgiven if you needed reminding that this isn't a RoG product. It has swathes of black and red, a decision that must have been deliberate.
For this kind of money you'd be insane to expect a box full of tons of accessories, but ASUS have still given the standard selection of SATA cables, IO shield, driver disks etc.
The board itself looks very nice with a mainly black layout. Sure we're not too keen on the use of grey plastics, and the heatsinks speak of functionality rather than Turner Prize winning sculpture, but it's under a £100 for goodness sake.
The CPU area is surrounded with 10K Black Metallic capacitors. Just beneath we have an M2 socket, something that certainly hasn't found its way into every Z97, and the upto 3200MHz DIMMs.
At the bottom we find dual PCI Express slots running at either 16x or 8x/8x. The Supreme FX II has the Headphone AMP technology as well as ASUS' excellent Sonic Radar.
Storage is catered for by 4 SATA 6Gbs ports and also a SATA Express that can be switched to two SATA 6Gbs ones if necessary. Round the back is the usual assortment of USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, combined PS2, LANGuard RJ45 and the audio out.
