ASUS TUF X299 Mark 1 Review

ASUS X299 TUF Mk1 Review

Introduction

It seems such a long time ago that the first TUF Armor equipped motherboard graced our offices, and time hasn’t lessened how highly we regard it. Motherboards have always been slaves to function over form – although things are improving recently – but TUF Armor hid all the endless caps and tiny chips and things to give you a system which looked like it was hewn from a single piece of granite.

With the release of the X299 chipset it was only a matter of time before the designers at ASUS returned to this theme and the X299 TUF Mark 1 is the result. We’re not sure if the Mark 1 part of the name indicates a aesthetic consideration for this particular model, or whether it is the beginning of a long line of motherboards with the TUF moniker rather than the Sabertooth one. Either way, let’s see what it brings to the table.

Technical Specifications

In keeping with the combination of the ASUS TUF ethos and the plentiful features available from the X299 chipset itself, the TUF Mark 1 has a seriously lengthy specification sheet that ticks all the boxes anyone could wish for. Naturally you’ll need a beefy CPU to give it the full amount of PCI Express lanes and thus run your hardware at peak efficiency, but if you’re not looking to go for one of the best Intel CPUs it’s probably better to look down the list to the Z270.
