Manual Overclocking

When you're overclocking the Core i9-9900K you have eight cores going on which requires a huge amount of tweaking to ensure you can maximise every element. It only takes one core to not quite be as good as the others and you're limited in your overclock. Compared to a quad core CPU there are obviously twice the amount of potential snafu's in the system. However, the i9-9900K we have easily manages to reach a very impressive 5 GHz across all eight cores on the Maximus XI Extreme.

There is also an automatic overclocking system on the Extreme, so let's look at that.

Really impressive. But I have one word for you ASUS... PLX!!! On a board this high-end, this expensive, and with tons of connectivity PLX is a must. M.2s 99% of the time won't use all 8 lanes that you give them, but 2080 Ti might get choked with 8 lanes. Let PLX juggle the bandwidth as it is needed.

It would be a dream if Intel would up the PCI-E lane count on 20, or 24 for top of the line mainstream CPUs.

Apart from lack of PLX this board is a dream.Quote
