There are four models in the revised Threadripper range, beginning with the 12 core 2920X, through the 16 core 2950X we're reviewing today. The WX range is much more aimed at the hardcore power user with the 2970WX having 24 cores and the 2990WX we're also looking at having a 32 core heart. All come with hyperthreading so if you've ever wanted to watch Cinebench doing its thing as quickly as is humanly possible then the Threadripper 2990WX will blow your mind.

Giving a clear indication of the target audience for the 2nd Generation Threadripper AMD show how much quicker you can expect it to run when compared to the flagship Intel offering, whilst also saving yourself some money from the initial purchase price. We think it's brave of AMD to admit the 2950X isn't quite up to par with the Intel in gaming, as a lot of manufacturers would just hide a negative result. However, it's our job to see how they really compare in our test setup. Let's do that.
