Up Close:  Exterior Overview and Roof

Whereas the RV04 case reviewed recently by Tom was more performance based the Fortress FT04, with it's sleek curved single piece Aluminium Front door and minimalist roof vent have more of a low key impact on the eye.  That's not to say it's any less impressive, with it's curving lines have more than a hint of the Art Deco about them.

Those familiar with the Fortress Series and for that matter a great many other cases from Silverstone will already be at ease with the concept of having the window on the right hand side of the case.  For those of you who are as yet uninitiated, this, at first view might seem paradoxical.  It does though make as much sense to have it on the right as it does on the left, and even more sense for those of you who's desk and room layout dictates that the case must be placed on their left.

The roof, like the Front door is made of aluminium, with only the removable PSU vent cover being made of plastic.  All of which affords the FT04 a great feeling of class and quality.

The mesh vent, although unfiltered is easily removed and refits snuggly without distorting the lines of the roof.

Not my cup of tea, seems overpriced at £180, especially with the lack of tool-less drive bays and grommets and the top mounted power supply, which I thought had finally been eradicated in cases. Looks nice on the outside though Quote

Really liked the case at first until I saw the scissor jack!?! Could probably drop £20 from the price if they took it out, only gripe I have and am yet to see in cases is the ability to flip the motherboard tray and IO panel round...Quote

I'm not feeling this new, more plasticy trend silverstone is going with. I own the Fortress FT02 and it's glorious.

I'm also really not liking the motherboard orientation. The 90 degree roll was what made these things special.Quote
