MSI recently added another high-end graphics card to their lineup with the introduction of the all new R5770 Hawk. Aimed at mainstream gamers, the Hawk R5770 card has been designed to deliver optimum performance without the premium price tag.
The first card in the Hawk series, the R5770 is expected to be an overclocker’s delight on account of its custom PWM design. Stability while overclocking the card comes via the Twin Frozr II thermal design and military grade components, a combination that MSI believe will set new benchmarks in the mainstream graphics cards market.
The Twin Frozr II thermal design allows the card to stay cooler by 13 degrees when compared to the reference card. Included in the military grade components are Hi-c CAPs for the GPU power supply; solid state capacitors that extend the card’s product life; and solid state inductors that keep noise levels at the minimum even at extreme overclocking levels.
The Hawk R5770 also boasts of a 7+1-phase power supply, which is significantly higher than the 4+1-phase supply that comes on the reference ATI Radeon HD5770 card. This makes the R5770 much stronger in terms of power supply for the GPU and memory and gives it up to 20% higher overclocking abilities.
In addition to the all new design, the Hawk also carries MSI’s exclusive Afterburner overclocking software. This makes it easy for overclockers to change the GPU voltage and unleash the full overclocking potential of the card. Direct compatibility for an external multimeter without the need for extra wiring or hardware changes makes voltage measurements for both GPU and memory simple and precise.
On the whole, MSI has come up with a card design that places the Hawk R5770 at par with its top-line Lightning series cards. But with a price tag of £153 including VAT, the Hawk R7550 is a lot more attractive and one graphics card that will seriously attract mainstream gamers.
