Corsair today introduced two new SSD lines, one based on the new JMicron JMF612 controller and the second based on Indilinx Barefoot controller. Dubbed the Reactor and the Nova series respectively, the two new SSDs lines are aimed at the mainstream market and offer high read and write speeds.
Solid state drives have been growing strongly over the past year and each month, manufacturers have been upgrading the technology to offer faster, most stable drives. Corsair has been one of the leaders in SSD technology and its mainstream drives are considered to be among the best in the market.
Most SSD manufacturers started out with controllers from JMicron, but their lack of stability and the fact that they caused SSDs to stutter during read and write operations soon led to demand tapering off. Just as the market was getting ready to write-off the company, JMicron seems to be making a comeback.
Corsair’s new Reactor Series SSDs carry the new JMF612 controller in both 60GB and 120GB versions. While the 60GB version offers read and write speeds of 250MB/sec and 110MB/sec, the 120GB version has write speeds of 170MB/sec with the same read speed. With 128MB of DDR2 cache memory, Corsair claims that the JMF612 controller also allows both versions to have stutter-free performance.
The second – Nova series that has also been released today features the proven Indilinx Barefoot controller with 64MB of cache. SSDs of this series have been made available in 64GB and 124GB capacities. Read speeds of both drives are an impressive 270MB/sec while write speed for the 64GB drive is 130MB/sec and for the 128GB drive is 190MB/sec.
In addition to the impressive read and write speeds, Corsair has also added TRIM support to make both SSD series Windows 7 compatible. For pricing, the manufacturer has listed the Reactor Series at $185 for the 60GB and $350 for the 120GB drives respectively. The Nova Series SSDs on the other hand carry price tags of $200 and $370 for the 64GB and 128GB devices respectively. Warranty for both series is two-years.
