The Xbox One Project Scorpio will support HVEC/VP9 playback and 4K 60FPS DVR

 
Windows Central has now revealed some new information on Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One Project Scorpio console, which will feature an integrated PSU (no external power brick) and support HEVC and VP9 playback and 4K 60FPS game DVR. 
 
Microsoft has recently been conduction 4K tests on their Beam streaming service, preparing their Twitch competitor for the release of Project Scorpio, offering 4K 60FPS streaming support where the Xbox One only features support for 720p 30FPS stream support. 

  

Project Scorpio is designed to be a native 4K console, though it is unknown exactly how developers plan on using the new hardware, whether it be to upgrade game visual and/or resolution or to enable a higher framerate gaming experience. Right now the exact specifications of this new console are unknown, though it will almost certainly be more powerful than the PS4 Pro.

Support for 4K game capture and streaming will be very attractive feature for Project Scorpio, offering a huge upgrade over the Xbox One’s native DVR capabilities,  though it is undeniable that most high-end streamers will continue to use external capture solutions for the console.
