The Pip handheld programming device has arrived on Kickstarter

Curious Chips, as small UK-based hardware/software start-up, has launched a new Kickstarter campaign for a device called the Pip, a handheld device that is designed to allow users of all ages to learn programming and turn consumers into creators.
The Pip has been designed teach users to program using languages like Javascript, Python, Lua, PHP and HTML/CSS, providing users access to tutorials as well as a number of projects with interactive step-by-step instructions that will help users learn at their own pace.

This project is powered by a Raspberry Pi Compute Module (CM3) with the device supporting a wide range of existing parts and sensors that can be used to augment the Pip's abilities. Software-wise the device uses a purpose-built programming platform called "Curiosity", though standard Raspbian is usable on the device using an SD card.

The purpose of this device is to help create a new generation of tinkerers, providing a handheld, kid-friendly starting point that will hopefully enable a new generation of programmers.

The Pip is set to officially release in August/September 2018, with the device aiming for a price of £199. Kickstarter backers will be able to purchase the device for £175 and Early Backers will be able to get this device for £150. Higher tier pledged will come with additional accessories, with the core hardware within the device remaining the same.
