Nvidia's latest Shield Update paves the way for Big Format Gaming Displays

Nvidia's Sheild TV has received its 20th software upgrade since its release in 2015, bringing Android 7.1 to the unit. Alongside this new edition of Android, the update brings in-game voice chat support to the Nvidia Shield, allowing players to connect a headset and mic to the Sheild controller's 3.5mm audio jack.

On top of this, Nvidia has updated their Shield TV to support 120Hz refresh rates on supported displays, a feature which may seem pointless on mainstream televisions, most of which support 60Hz refresh rates, but makes a lot of sense when considering the company's plans. Nvidia's upcoming Big Format Gaming Displays (BFGDs) will support a resolution of 4K and a refresh rate of 120Hz, making 120Hz resolution support vital for the BFGD's integrated Shield TV solution to function optimally. HDR GameStream has also been added to the Nvidia Sheild.

Nvidia has also stated that this update tweaks keyboard/mouse controls on Geforce Now, which should provide users with an improved gaming experience. On top of that, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Monster Hunter: World are also coming to the streaming service in the near future.

I just wish the actual device got a hardware update. I would definitely consider one when they do that. It would easily be the best tablet aroundQuote
