MSI Dragon Gaming Build

Our latest custom system!

MSI Dragon Gaming Build

MSI Gaming Series Build

As most of you will be aware, we've had a thing for doing custom cases for a while now. Just over a year ago, we gave away our first custom case in a competition, and since then we've done many more. In the majority of PC related competitions, you're only offered the chance to win a product, whilst our competitions have always been something to award the winners with something that not only looks great, but is unique too.

A couple of months back, the OC3D office had a major refurbishment, to get rid of the old scratched desks, and keep the theme up to date. Along with the standard replacing furniture, TTL also wanted these unique cases implemented into all of the systems in the office. We've had the motherboard and graphics test rigs done, and also the home server. Next up, we have the MSI Dragon Gaming Build:

The system has been built around mainly MSI components. As MSI sponsor OC3D's second channel RushKit, we thought it was right to do a build to honour that, along with their dragon theme.

The system uses an MSI Z87I Gaming motherboard. We've previously reviewed this, and found it to offer great performance and features for its size. Along with this, we've put in an MSI Gaming Series 750 Ti graphics card. Although this system won't necessarily be used for gaming, the small power efficient card looks great, and will be capable of playing games if required.

As this is a very efficient system, we've opted for a Corsair RM450 power supply. We all know the RM units are built to insane quality standards, and so the 450 watts this provides will be more than enough for our low powered rig.

To keep with the red theme throughout, we've also opted for a Corsair Neutron SSD. This may not normally be important for keeping colour schemes in order, but in the case we've used, the colours are visible. Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM has also been used, and of course is in red. This matches perfectly to our motherboard and graphics card. To cool the processor, we've gone for the standard Corsair H100i which you'll often see in our builds. This has the ability to turn the pump's LED to red so it too matches with the rest of the components. To give a bit of light to the system, we've used Corsair AF120 LED fans with red LEDs, which will glow red through the top vent of the case.

Last of all, and probably the most interesting part is the case. We've used a white Bitfenix Phenom. Due to it having very flat sides, and an overall minimalistic look, it's made it easy for us to make our own design out of. As MSI use dragon branding for their gaming series, we've used their dragon template to mould motorway grade vinyl around the case. The vinyl stands out significantly when the lights are on, and due to its glow in the dark nature, it's even more visible in the dark! Finally, we put on the MSI Gaming Series Badge that comes with MSI's motherboards so it adds even more of a sense of branding to the finished product.

We're really happy with how the case, and the build as a whole turned out, and we hope you love it too! If you want to see it in the flesh, the system will be on display on the MSI stand at i51 this April bank holiday.

Feel free to discuss your thoughts on the OC3D Forums, and make sure you come and visit the MSI stand at iSeries at the Ricoh Arena 18th-21st April.

Watching the video. As usual the vinyl looks amazing. You have some really talented graphic folks Tom. There are car vinyl shops here, going to go check one of them out. Car modding not my thing, so new to me.

Thanks for another great build.
