PNY announces the world's first 512GB MicroSD card

MicroSD cards are amazing when you think about it, containing insane amounts of storage into a fingertip-sized form factor. Even so, the use cases of these compact storage devices are becoming increasingly demanding, be it for long-form time-lapse videos or hoarding as much data as you can on your array of smart devices.

PNY has revealed what they call the world's largest MicroSD card, offering 512GB of storage capacity and transfer speeds of up to 90MB/s over the UHS-1 interface. The PNY 512 Elite MicroSD card also provides a class 10 and U1 ratings, though it seems that the ultra-high-end A1 certification was out of reach for this compact storage device.

The MSRP of this device is a hefty $349.99, a significant price premium over Sandisk's 400GB A1-certified MicroSD card, which currently retails for $195 in the US and £180 in the UK. Sandisk's offering also provided users with 100MB/s transfer speeds, showcasing that PNY extra capacity has come with a few compromises.

For many users, capacity is everything when it comes to MicroSD cards, allowing them to take more high-resolution pictures, longer videos or to merely create additional free space on an all too easily filled smartphone.
