Forspoken gives us a look at next-generation PC gaming
At Gamescom 2022, Square Enix gave games a 10-minute look at Forspoken, the newest game to utilise Luminous Production's Luminous Engine, the engine behind Final Fantast XV.
Forspoken is due to launch for PC and PlayStation 5 in January 2022, arriving as one of the first PC games to utilise Microsoft's DirectStorage API, reducing loading times by more effectively utilising the performance of modern storage mediums. In many regards, Forspoken is designed to be a technological showcase, utilising ray tracing to enhance the game's lighting and procedural generation to create some of the game's large landscapes. Forspoken is designed to be a current-gen only title, which means that the game should require a powerful system to play.
Square Enix has confirmed that they will discuss more technical details for Forspoken at a later date, focusing today on their new 10-minute gameplay demo for the game.
In Forspoken, gamers will play as Fray Holland, a young woman who has been transported to the world of Athia and must utilise her new magical abilities to survive and find a way home.
The gameplay demo below showcased combat, some of the game's lore, environmental traversal, and exploration.
Forspoken is currently expected to launch on PC and PlayStation 5 on January 24th. On PC, Forspoken will be available though Steam and the Epic Games Store.
