ASUS Announces their RGB Illuminated FX Series External HDDs with Aura Sync

ASUS has officially revealed their new FX series of external hard drives, offering capacities of 1TB and 2TB as well as full Aura Sync compatibility. Yes, ASUS put Aura Sync RGB LEDs on an external hard drive!

The HDD itself is nothing out of the ordinary, offering 5Gbps of USB 3.1 (Gen 1) connectivity to ensure that the drive’s full transfer speeds are accessible. The primary differentiator between ASUS’ FX drives and competing offerings is ASUS’ unique aesthetics and the unit’s bundled software and the drive’s optional 256-bit AES encryption, a feature which enables users to protect their private data with a personalised password.

On top of the FX’s encryption features and RGB lighting, ASUS has also claimed to put all of their drives through a “stringent 24/7 stress test, a move which is designed to ensure the reliability of their external storage drives.

On the hardware side, ASUS offers 256-bit AES encryption and data compression and makes use of an ASMedia 1153E controller to help maximise transfer speeds. Regardless, this drive will not operate outside of the realms of 2.5-inch mechanical hard drives. The FX EHD isn’t an external SSD.

ASUS FX External Hard Drive is the world’s first 2.5” HDD with Aura Sync lighting, USB 3.1 Gen1 data transmission speed, 256-bit AES encryption, and a capacity of either 1 TB or 2 TB for an extreme reliable backup solution. Featuring a futuristic design and exclusive Aura Sync LED lighting, ASUS FX gives any gaming setup a dashing look.

ASUS’ tagline for their FX series of external HDD is “storage with style”, delivering a level of flash that is uncommon for most external storage mediums. At this time ASUS has not provided us with retail pricing for their 1TB (EHD-A1T), and their 2TB (EHD-A1T/A2T) drives, though they have confirmed that their drives will be available at Overclockers UK, Scan and other UK retailers.
