AMD Branded SSDs?

As rumored a few months back, AMD have been in talks with Toshiba to produce AMD Radeon SSDs. Now AMD have officially announced that they will launch the Radeon R7 Series of SSDs in 120GB, 240GB and 480GB sizes.

Add this to AMDs CPU, GPU and memory, you can almost make an entire Rig with AMD branded components.

The AMD Radeon R7 Series SSD will be contained in a black aluminum casing, engraved with the Radeon brand logo. The internals will be as follows, an OCZ's Barefoot 3 M00 controller at its heart combined with Toshiba's 19 nm MLC NAND flash.

Performance wise the nominal sequential read speeds of up to 550MB/s and write speeds of 530MB/s or 470MB/s depending on the model, 4K random read and write is 100000 IOPS largest and 90000 IOPS, again depending on the model.

The OCZ Vector 150 is a very similar performer, looking at the specs, although not yet known if it is the same SSD or if it has been tweaked for higher performance or for the AMD platform.

AMD will be selling this SSD with a 4 year warranty and a copy of Acronis' drive cloning software and a 3.5" adapter.

So these are just OCZ drives?

Sounds very much like how Corsair have jumped on every bandwagon in the last few years.Quote

No they do not need to make fans! I'm imagining the puns now.

"You could say I'm a FAN of AMD"

"you are such an AMD FANboy"

I already hear enough of those when Noctua do something!

Yes and NO, OCZ controller but some good reliable Toshiba Flash. So OCZ with a lot of their problems taken out.Quote

Woad! Didn't see that coming! If they come out with motherboards then us AMD fanboys 'll be able to have a full AMD system

EDIT:
And for the 120GB drive the reads/writes are actually pretty damn good considering that most other companies leave the lover capacity drives with around half the write speeds of the ~500GB drives counterpartsQuote
