Windows 9 may be free to windows 8 owners

Microsoft's Indonesia president, Andreas Diantoro, has said that Windows 9 will be a free upgrade to all windows 8 users.

It is thought that the OS will be available as a free download to all current Windows 8/8.1 users, in a similar way to Apple's updates to OS X and updating to Windows 8.1.

At present it is unknown how much this OS will cost for those who do not currently own Windows 8/8.1, but we hope that it will be more wallet friendly than what we are used to from Microsoft.

Going to be rather interested in this even though I'm coming from win7. Microsoft tend to have a good/bad cycle of releases going so this one falls under what should be good (though 8 wasn't bad just poorly received).

Now if it works with Office 2010, yaldiQuote

thought this had been mentioned a few months ago, and was virtually a guarantee.
the twist back then was they were thinking of giving xp users a direct install option too (obviously you cant just upgrade in 1 hit from xp to 9 but you can do a clean install)
i was rather dubious of that, but the speculation was they wanted people to stop using xp so give them a free upgrade..Quote
