Total War Warhammer III has a new release date and is coming to Xbox Game Pass

This week, Creative Assembly has announced that Total War: Warhammer III will be released on PC on February 17th, arriving on Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox Game Pass for PC.

Total War Warhammer III is the first game of the franchise to be revealed as an Xbox Game Pass for PC release, giving PC gamers an affordable entry point into the series. Beyond that, Creative Assembly has just revealed Total War Warhammer III’s Pre-order DLC faction, the Ogre Kingdoms.

Pre-order faction DLC is not new for the Total War Warhammer series, with the Chaos Warriors and Norsca for Total War Warhammer and Total War Warhammer II respectively. Total War Warhammer III’s Ogre Kingdoms faction will be available as a paid-for DLC post-launch, with pre-orders of the game receiving access to the faction for free.

Total War Warhammer III was previously set to release in 2021, with Creative Assembly delaying the game in September stating that they wanted to “accomplish more” with the game.

So far, Total War Warhammer III’s playable factions include Kislev (Warhammer Fantasy’s Russian faction), the empire of Grand Cathay (Total War Fantasy’s Chinese Empire), the Ogre Kingoms, and factions under the Chaos Gods;  Nurgle, the plague god; Slaanesh, the lord of excess; Tzeentch, the changer of ways; and Khorne, the god of blood and slaughter. In time, Creative Assembly may reveal more launch day factions for Total War Warhammer III. That said, Total War Warhammer games always receive frequent updates with both free and paid-for DLC factions and campaigns.

Total War Warhammer III will not end with Total War Warhammer

When confirming the delay of Total War Warhammer III, Creative Assembly confirmed that the game would be a “step into a new era for Total War Warhammer”. Total War Warhammer will act as the “start of years of content and support”, which means that the game will be supported through the release of DLC content and free updates over the coming years.

Total War Warhammer II was released in September 2017, and its last DLC pack was released this July. This gave Total War Warhammer II almost four years of support through the release of new content, both in the form of patches and free content add-ons and paid for DLC packs.

Creative Assembly has confirmed that Total War Warhammer III will be released with nine playable Legendary Lords at launch. This roster is expected to be expanded significantly over the coming years.

Total War: Warhammer III is coming to Windows PC, macOS and Linux through Steam and the Epic Games Store, with the game launching first on Windows. Feral Interactive will be working on the game’s Linux and macOS versions, which will release as soon as they are ready.
