There are no plans to increase PUBG's pricing when it leaves Early Access
In a recent interview with gamesindusrty.biz, the creator of Player Unknown's Battlegrounds, Brendan Greene, has revealed there are currently no plans to increase the price of the game as it leaves Steam Early Access.
In recent months, several Early Access titles like Ark: Survival Evolved and We Happy Few have received significant price increases as both products approach the end of their time on Steam Early Access, with both games receiving a consumer backlash because of these increases.
Right now sales of PUBG remain strong, with the game selling over 10 million copies in the past 6 or so months since the game's initial release. Game sales are not expected to decrease anytime soon, giving little reason to increase the game's price at the time of writing.
We don't have a plan to increase at the moment. That could change, but from my understanding, and from what we've talked about internally, we want to keep the same price.
[For a game like PUBG, having more people playing is better for the experience overall?]
Exactly... We're happy. $30 is a good price for what you're getting, and this is a game that could last for five or ten years. You're buying into something bigger than just a year-long game.
[How much more room is there to grow on the PC specifically?]
Our sales curves are just going up. They're not slowing down. I'm still waiting for that plateau, and it's just not happening yet. When you ask about growth on PC, I just look at League of Legends. 100 million active users a month, I think, something stupid like that? If we play our cards right, maybe we can get to that level of users.
In the future, PUBG will also be releasing on Xbox One, with Microsoft lending the own staff and expertise to aid in the development of both the PC and Xbox One versions of the game.
