The Walking Dead: The Final Season has been de-listed from digital storefronts

Telltale Games has de-listed The Walking Dead: The Final Season from all digital gaming storefront, removing the game from both Steam and GOG, to of PC gaming's most popular gaming platforms.

In an official statement, Telltale Games says that the games have been removed "for the time being", stressing that they are "still working to find a way to hand off production of episodes 3 and 4" hoping that the season can be completed by a 3rd party developer.

Telltale hopes to have an announcement at the end of this week, stating on Twitter that they are talking to "multiple potential partners".  If The Walking Dead: The Final Season returns to GOG and Steam, it is likely that the game will be sold under a new developer and publisher.

ATTENTION: We have removed season passes for The Walking Dead: The Final Season from stores for the time being. We’re currently still working to find a way to hand off production of episodes 3 and 4 so that the season can be completed. The outcome of those efforts will determine when and how The Final Season returns to stores. We hope to have a firm announcement before the end of the week. For now, we apologize for any inconvenience.

At this time, removing The Walking Dead: The Final Season from retail is a logical move, as revenue earned from any potential new sales will not help Telltale, as the company doesn't need the bad publicity associated with selling a product that has an unclear future.

Even if Telltale finds a suitable developer that is willing to complete The Walking Dead: The Final Season, there are concerns that 3rd party developers will be able to deliver on Telltale's original vision for the series, never mind the fact that these devs will be unfamiliar with the Telltale game engine.

A demo version of The Walking Dead: The Final Season remains available to download on Steam. Expect to hear more regarding the future of The Walking Dead: The Final Season soon.
