Strange Brigade is the first game to support the Vulkan API with Multi-GPU systems

When the Khronos Group first released their Vulkan API, it was unable to support multiple graphics cards, making SLI or Crossfire enabled systems pointless under the next-generation API. Only one graphics card could be used under Vulkan, regardless of how many graphics cards were available within a system.

Strange Brigade was the first game to launch with support for both Vulkan and DirectX 12, but since then we have confirmed that Strange Brigade is also the first game to implement multi-GPU support under the Vulkan API. The game also supports multiple graphics cards under DirectX 12.

In AMD’s internal testing, the company found that Strange Brigade offered a 1.9 times performance boost when using two RX Vega 56 graphics cards at 4K under the game’s Ultra preset.

Multi-GPU support was officially added to Vulkan in version 1.1 of the graphical API, which released in March 2018. Future Vulkan-powered games, like DOOM Eternal, are likely to also include support for Multi-GPU systems, provided the developers are willing to enable/support the feature.
