Star Citizen: Squadron 42 receives a new trailer

At CitizenCon 2018, Cloud Imperium Games has released a new trailer for Squadron 42, the former single-player mode of Star Citizen, which has now been spun off into an independent game.

This trailer showcases the game’s all-star cast, which includes the likes of Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Gillian Anderson, Mark Strong, Henry Cavil and more.

Squadron 42, like Star Citizen, is powered by Amazon’s Lumberyard engine, which itself is an offshoot of Crytek’s CryEngine technology. The game takes place in the year 2945, telling the story of Squadron 42, part of the Navy of the United Empire of Earth (UEE) as it battles against the invading Vanduul race.

The game will be displayed from a first-person perspective, with Star Citizen featuring both space battles, on-foot FPS action and vehicle-based assaults depending on the situation. At this time it is unknown whether or not Squadron 42 will feature full-on FPS battles, given its apparent focus on space/aerial combat.

Cloud Imperium Games plans to release a full Squadron 42 development roadmap in December, which will hopefully give the game firm release date and showcase gameplay footage from the title.
