STALKER Remaster Mod aims to bring raytracing, DirectX 11, tessellation and more to the PC classic

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (Stalker) series is a PC classic, sitting amongst legendary titles like Crysis thanks to its impressive visuals and unique gameplay. Now, Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl is due to receive a remaster, not from GSC Game World, but a modder called Strelokkkkk over on Moddb.

Over the years, Stalker’s X-Ray engine has proven to be incredibly moddable, enabling a large number of fan creations. This is what has helped keep the game alive for well over a decade. Now, Strelokkkkk plans to upgrade the game with DirectX 11 support, new features like tessellated models and advanced features like ray-traced ambient occlusion and global illumination through SSRTGI (Screen-Space Ray Traced Global Illumination).

The trailer below showcases the game’s many graphical enhancements, such as improved God Rays, grass shadows, high-quality textures, soft shadows, higher quality weapon models and more. While this mod is designed for Shadow of Chernobyl, Strelokkkkk plans to create a trilogy of mods for each game in the Stalker series.

Enjoy pure vanilla Shadow of Chernobyl experience with striking visual updates and immersive environments. Coming soon. Credits to all the modders who worked hard through the years and maintained the game alive. Special thanks to paranoiia8 , KRodinn , and Autumnal Wanderers. IMPORTANT: Note that i showed mostly sun weather voluntarily in order to show a lot of effects. There is still rain and thunderbolts in the game. If you want a totally depressing ambiance, i have a preset weather for that, don’t worry! In addition all the post process effects can be disabled if you don’t like them like bloom etc.. Godrays can be disabled or tweaked to be less visible if you want to!

At this time, STALKER’s remaster mod has no firm release date, but know that we are following the mod’s development with interest.
