Square Enix launches an official benchmarking tool for Final Fantasy XIV Online: Shadowbringers

Final Fantasy XIV's Shadowbringers expansion is set to release on July 2nd, bringing with it higher system requirements, improved graphics and guts many of the title's legacy features.

DirectX 9 support, that's gone, 32-bit Windows support, that's also gone. Square Enix are cutting away Final Fantasy XIV's legacy features, an action which will enable the company to make larger changes to the game moving forward. Legacy hardware support was holding Final Fantasy XIV back, an soon those limitations will no longer be an issue.

With new system requirements and improved graphical features, Final Fantasy Online's benchmarking tool has turned from being a useful judge for system performance to something that no longer represents the game. With this in mind, Square Enix has prepared a new benchmarking tool for Final Fantasy XIV Online, which is available to download starting today.

Square Enix' benchmarking tool include the benchmark itself, which can be run using a variety of in-game settings and display resolutions, alongside a custom character creator, which newcomers to the series can use to design their own characters for the game. A short testing mode is also available which will enable players to look at some of the features of the game's Shadowbringers update.

More information about Final Fantasy XIV Online's Shadowbringers benchmark is available here. The benchmark can also be downloaded from this page.
