Sony delays its PlayStation 5 reveal event amidst widespread protests in the US

Earlier today, Sony confirmed that the company plans to delay its PlayStation 5 "The Future of Gaming" event, which was due to take place on June 4th. While Sony did not explicitly state why the event would be delayed, the company's official Twitter account revealed that Sony "want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard".

Sony's wording suggests that the postponement of their PlayStation 5 event is due to the ongoing Black Live Matter protests that are taking place across the US. These protests were sparked after the death of George Floyd, who was needlessly killed by a police officer in Minneapolis. This event was recorded by passers-by, who were concerned about what they had witnessed. This event was one of many, and now the voices of American minorities are demanding to be heard.

At this time, Sony has revealed no new date for its "Future of Gaming" event, though Sony has confirmed that it still plans to release its PlayStation 5 console globally in 2020.

When discussing their "Future of Gaming" event, Jim Ryan, the president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, said that "it's time to give fans something that can only be enjoyed on PlayStation 5". To do this, Sony has invited gamers to a livestreamed event where the company plans to showcase what its next-generation console can deliver. This event will last more than an hour and be hosted on both Twitch and YouTube on at an unknown date.

At this event, Sony promises to showcase games from both new and established studios titles that are both big and small. Through this event, Sony wants to show gamers how the PlayStation 5 will "redefine the future of videogames".

Ah yes... Let's give more coverage to the people destroying cities and costing the country millions upon millions of dollars embarrassing the country.

The people with jobs are the ones who will be buying this. Those people aren't on the streets.

Sucks I was looking forward to this. Was going to be some good news in the mist of chaos.Quote

I would say it was the mirror opposite, Sony wants not to be pushed out of the spotlight in the USA.Quote

That's probably true. Less coverage here, but there is more than the US. Other people probably want to see it too Quote

I think it has more to do with Sega having an interview about something in famitsu they are celebrating their 60th year and the famitsu guy says it's really big news so i expect Sony just want to not clash with other companies.Quote
