Sonic Mania no longer requires an internet connection to play on PC

Sonic Mania launched on PC with an unfortunate bug, which prevented the game from being played without an Internet connection, an extremely annoying requirement given this game's lack of online specific content.

Sega has stated that this issue was not caused by the game's Denuvo DRM, saying that it was due to an issue with the game's code and that it has now been corrected by the game's development team.

The  offline play bug has now been patched. Thanks for your patience and let us know if you experience any further problems.

Now Sonic fans can enjoy Sonic Mania without the need for an Internet connection, allowing PC fans to more easily play one of the best games that the Sonic series has produced in recent years.

Just smells fishy to me. On the other hand I don't see the benefit of having such a restriction built in... At least they got rid of it very quickly...Quote

Indeed, if it was intentional the person behind that idea deserves to be fired over this PR disaster.

If it was accidental, well... that was an unfortunate mess up.Quote
