SEGA Forever allows mobile gamers to play classic console game for free

SEGA has announced their new Sega Forever app for Android and iOS, allowing mobile gamers to play classic console games for free.

Let’s get this straight, SEGA Forever is an emulator, arriving today with five Genisis/Megadrive games like Sonic the Hedgehog, Comix Zone, Altered Beast, Kid Chameleon and Phantasy Star II, with more games coming in the future.

With this app, SEGA fans can play all of these games for free but will be forced to pay $1.99 per game to turn off ads. Each game has controller support, cloud saves and online leaderboard support, though players can opt to play games offline.

Over time, SEGA will release more titles from every console era, from the Master System, Genesis/MegaDrive, Dreamcast and more, with game releases planned every month.

As the Sega Forever collection expands through months and years,
it will include both official emulations and ported games that span all Sega console eras, each adapted specifically for mobile devices while remaining faithful to the original games

The only real problem with this release is that it is only for mobile devices, though the app has the potential to work on Android TV devices with a controller. It would also be nice to see a version of SEGA Forever on PC or console platforms, as many would enjoy playing these Sega classics on larger screens.
