Seasoned PC users shouldn't need to be told why they need SSD storage. When compared to mechanical storage drives, SSDs are faster, quieter and consume less power. They are better than mechanical drives in every tangible way, outside of cost per gigabyte of storage.

Today, SanDisk's SSD PLUS 1TB SATA SSD is available for £81.99 on Amazon. This is an excellent price given the speeds that it offers and the volume of storage that it provides. Yes, they aren't the fastest drives on the market, even by SATA standards, but they are an excellent upgrade option for users of mechanical drives or those in need of an affordable SSD-based storage drive.

With both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X utilising SSD-based storage, PC gamers will soon see SSD storage become the new minimum requirement for new PC games. While both new consoles offer faster NVMe-based storage solutions, SATA-based SSDs should be more than sufficient during the incoming cross-generation era. Until the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 establish themselves, games will be made with mechanical storage and SSD storage in mind, making budget-oriented SATA SSDs a great middle-ground for PC users.

Those who are looking for a larger SSD will find Crucial's BX500 2TB SSD a great offering for £167,99, offering users plenty of space for new and future game releases. Both Crucial and SanDisk are trusted brands within the SSD market, and this kind of value isn't available when you move to NVMe-based storage solutions.

If you are looking for cheap SSD storage, these two drives are great options. They are not the fastest, but they are incredibly affordable and worthy of consideration if capacity is more important to you than raw data rates.
