DLSS and Ray-Traced Shadows Arrive in Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Ray Traced Shadows of the Tomb Raider? DLSS and RTX On!

Nixxes had announced that they have brought Ray Traced Shadows to the PC version of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, allowing Windows 10 users to access Nvidia's RTX features within the game.

Both DLSS and "Nvidia's Ray-Traced Shadows" are not included within the game, but at this time Nixxes has not clarified whether or not these options will be available within the game's DirectX 11 mode. In Metro Exodus, both DLSS and the game's ray-traced features were limited to DirectX 12, as expected given the game's use of Microsoft's DXR raytracing API.

At this time it is unknown how much of a performance impact ray tracing and DLSS will have on the game, though we plan to analyse the feature once our copy of the game is fully patched.

Below is a video of Nvidia's Gamescom 2018 Shadow of the Tomb Raider ray tracing demo, which may not be representative of the Shadow of the Tomb Raider's new ray tracing update.

Owners of Shadow of the Tomb Raider on Steam will see their copies of the game update automatically next time they log in. Nvidia's RTX features require Windows 10 update 1809 or higher, an Nvidia RTX 20 series graphics cards and Nvidia's Geforce 419.35 drivers or newer.
