Racing series GRID is getting a Reboot - Releases this year

Codemasters has announced that their GRID series is getting a reboot, confirming the company's plans to release a new entry to the series on September 13th called GRID. Yes, just GRID.

The game will launch later this year on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and on PC (via Steam), though at this time relatively little is known about the title aside from its name. As far as reboots go GRID is perhaps the most confusing name the Codemasters could have chosen, given the series thus far is comprised of Race Driver: GRID, GRID 2 and GRID Autosport.

So far the only information that's available on GRID is what's contained on the textbox and trailer below, with Codemasters presumably waiting to reveal more about their upcoming racing title at a later date. So far the game is not shown on any storefronts, so we will have to wait until closer to launch to reveal the game's pricing or PC hardware requirements.

Take your place in the GRID World Series and fight in thrilling wheel-to-wheel battles with the most iconic and desirable race cars – current and classic, from GT through Touring and Muscle to Stock and Super Modifieds – and in some of the world’s most iconic locations. GRID captures every moment of the race, from the adrenaline rush of lights-out to the elation at the chequered flag – and in-between, it’s all action too.

Incidents come one right after the other – tight overtakes, bumper-to bumper scrapes and competitive collisions – all heightened by rivalries, team-mates and a nemesis driver who will all either try to help or hinder your progress.

Given GRID's September release date and today's marketing, it looks like GRID will be exclusive to Valve's Steam platform on PC, which means that the Epic Games hate brigade can rest easy for tonight. That said, Epic Games has sniped games from Steam before, though we believe that Codemasters are unlikely to reconsider their PC platform decisions.
