Quantic Dream steps away from PlayStation exclusivity after NetEase investment

Quantic Dream, the developer behind Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain, looks like they are leaving their era of PlayStation exclusivity behind them, opening the door to more multiplatform releases for the company.

Thanks to a new investment from NetEase Games, a Chinese game publisher, Quantic Dream is now able to create their next game without the backing of PlayStation, who has been working with the studio for 12 years.

In the future, Quantic Dream plans to deliver their games to a wider audience, releasing on “all platforms where there is an audience that can enjoy our experiences”. This means that gamers on alternative platforms, such as PC and Xbox, should be able to enjoy the studio’s future games.

Below is a comment which Guillaume de Fondaumière, one of Quantic Dream’s studio heads, gave to Variety

Our objective is to be present on all platforms where there is an audience that can enjoy our experiences, We will, of course, continue developing on PlayStation, a platform that we know very well after having worked with Sony for 12 years, but we will also be present on all other relevant platforms.

With these comments in mind, it is likely that Quantic Dream’s next game will release outside of Sony’s PlayStation platforms, bringing the studio’s future games to a larger number of gamers. Hopefully, this means that we will see PC versions of the studio’s future games.
