Mojang reveals Minecraft: Dungeons for PC

At Minecon 2018, Mojang has officially unveiled a new game within the Minecraft universe called Minecraft Dungeons, a role-playing game and 4-player dungeon crawler.

Minecraft veterans will be familiar with many of the creatures within the game, though this entry will offer a graphically enhanced version of Minecraft's familiar blocky aesthetic. It is also likely that Dungeons will remove Minecraft's trademark building and destruction mechanics, replacing it with an in-depth combat system for several warrior classes.

So far, Minecraft: Dungeons has been announced for PC, with reference of an Xbox One version, a strange omission for a developer that is owned by Microsoft. It is likely that Minecraft: Dungeons will release for console platforms at a later date.

Fight your way through an all-new action-adventure game, inspired by classic dungeon crawlers and set in the Minecraft universe! Coming to PC in 2019. Brave the dungeons alone, or team up with friends! Up to four players can battle together through action-packed, treasure-stuffed, wildly varied levels, all in an epic quest to save the villagers and take down the evil Arch-Illager! Discover new weapons and items that will help you defeat a ruthless swarm of new-and-nasty mobs. Fight or flee through canyons, swamps and – of course – mines! Any adventurer brave or foolish enough (or a bit-of-both!) to explore this blocky and beautiful world will need to come prepared. So quickly, gear up!

At Minecon 2018, Mojang has also announced Minecraft's upcoming "Village and PIllage" update, which adds new villager types to the game which include professionals such as librarians, butchers, clerics, cartographers and fletchers. Hostile barbarians will also be added to the game, who will periodically attack villages. This update will release sometime in 2019 on all platforms.
