Microsoft Reportedly Brings Xbox Game Pass to Nintendo's Switch

Rumour has it that Microsoft plans to bring their Xbox Game Pass to Nintendo's Switch console, delivering the Xbox Library to gamers who sit outside of the Xbox hardware ecosystem.

Earlier this month, GDC 2019's schedule page revealed Microsoft's plans to make Xbox Live "MUCH bigger", expanding the platform to mobile iOS, Android and Nintendo Switch. Our report on this can be found here

Direct Feed Games has reported that Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass would be coming to Nintendo Switch, likely through Microsoft's Project xCloud Xbox streaming service. This will enable gamers on Nintendo's hardware to play an expanded library of games, many of which are otherwise unavailable on the platform.

If this is true, this is a big deal for both Nintendo and Microsoft, as Nintendo will have successfully expanded their game library many times over and Microsoft will have access to Nintendo users on their Game Pass streaming service. Ori and the Blind Forest is also reportedly coming to Nintendo Switch,

Using the power of the cloud, Nintendo's handheld/home console hybrid will be able to offer games that were otherwise impossible on the hardware, though it remains to be seen exactly how successful game streaming will be on the platform. It is worth noting that the Nintendo Switch lacks an ethernet connection, even while docked, which means that without a USB to ethernet adapter, Switch users will be forced to stream through WiFi, which is a sub-par solution in terms of latency.

The idea of being able to play Metro and other games on my Switch is a top notch idea. I think this is a prelude to the next Xbox since other reports reckon that will be cloud-basedQuote

Hopefully we will hear more at GDC and then E3. It is an interesting direction for both Xbox and Nintendo to take.

For Xbox increasing their potential playerbase is a big deal and for Nintendo their hardware will gain access to Xbox exclusives. Very cool thing to see. Halo on a Nintendo Switch!Quote

It would be smart on both parts. Nintendo clearly makes the better handheld and makes it popular. MS and Sony never could do it. So by partnering together it massively increases the amount of people MS can get subscribers from and it makes the Switch more noteworthy amongst more people to have a wider range of games to playQuote
