Microsoft releases its first gameplay for Age of Empires 4

It has been over a decade since the last Age of Empires game released, and now the series is back and better looking than ever. That's right, Microsoft has released Age of Empires 4's first gameplay trailer, revealing that the game will take place in the Medieval era and feature both the English and Mongol civilisations.

Sadly, Microsoft has not revealed Age of Empires 4's release date, though it is expected to release both as a standalone title and as part of Xbox Game Pass.

Microsoft has created a new games studio that's dedicated to Age of Empires. This studio is called World's Edge, though the trailer below also includes Relic Entertainment's logo.

Below is Microsoft's first trailer for Age of Empires 4.

This looks really good. Between this and MS Flight Simulator coming next year MS is taking the gaming industry seriously again after years of broken promises. Super excited

This looks like it could compete pretty directly to Total War which is great. Total War while great has many longstanding issues and if this is anything like this trailer Total War will have a run for its money.Quote

I'm just happy to get a major new strategy game set in the Medieval period. It's been 13 years now since Medieval Total War 2 and CA is showing no signs of going back to that period anytime soon which is a downer.

Hopefully this comes out sometime next year and not 2021, waiting sucks.Quote
