Microsoft is joining the Linux Foundation

In a surprise announcement today Microsoft has revealed that the company is joining the Linux Foundation as a high-paying Platinum member, joining the likes of Intel, IBM, Samsung and Qualcomm.
While in the eyes of many Microsoft and Linux are at war with each other the reality couldn't be further from the truth, with Microsoft contributing to a lot of Linux Foundation-managed projects, bringing SQL Server to Linux and building in several aspects of Linux into Windows 10.
Microsoft has had a huge culture change in recent years, open sourcing PowerShell, Visual Studio code, and the JavaScript engine for their Edge Browser. Now Microsoft will be paying a Platinum membership fee of around $500,000 to the Linux Foundation and will be playing a bigger role in future products.

In the past decade, Microsoft has become one of the most top  organisations on Github and has steadily increased their support of open source developments, a massive change for a software company that built its empire on closed-source proprietary software.

They are moving to open source because staying closed source is causing increasing project costs when they could share some code and save a lot of cash and speed up development time/greater injection into more products. Makes sense
I just hope this is a push towards better gaming on Linux(ie greater game libraries and etc)Quote
