Microsoft has built a programming language for quantum computing

Quantum computers offer up an interesting conundrum for mankind, as while some quantum computing hardware does exist, it is simply not stable enough to work outside of finely tuned laboratory conditions.

To put it simply, it will be a long time before Quantum computing becomes commonplace. Today’s quantum computers require extremely low temperatures to function correctly, requiring temperatures of around 30 millikelvin, which is only just above absolute zero.

Microsoft has decided to create a new programming language for Quantum computing, which is designed to work on both Quantum computers and quantum simulators, with plans to create a quantum computing ecosystem for both hardware and software.
While it may seem silly to create a programming language for hardware that doesn’t really exist yet, it will allow programmers to get a proper grasp on the problems and simulations that can be run or solved on a quantum computer, giving them an opportunity to see how the power of quantum computers can be harnessed. This will prepare the world for when quantum computers are actually available.

This new programming language will be available in Visual Studio, offering a huge opportunity for people to see what can be calculated on quantum computers.

This is the first step for what Microsoft believes to be a huge shift for the quantum computing world, with the company’s work on quantum computing on both a software and a hardware side giving them an opportunity to become a huge figure in this emerging market.
