Gamescom 2020 is almost certainly cancelled

It looks like Gamescom 2020 has been cancelled, just like seemingly all major gaming events in 2020, as the German Government has prohibited all large events until the end of August.

Gamescom, which takes place in Cologne, is due to take place between August 25th and August 29th, placing it within the confines of the ban. With Gamescom 2020 bringing in hundreds of thousands of visitors, its inclusion within this events ban is all but guaranteed. The ban will also impact sporting events and all other events with over 1,000 attendees.

In a comment earlier this year, which is embedded below, Gamescom's organisers confirmed that they will "follow the recommendation of the responsible authorities" and that all ticket purchases will be reimbursed should the event be postponed or cancelled.

While Gamescom hasn't been cancelled yet, the cancellation of the event has all but guaranteed given German's response to coronavirus.

This year's Gamescom promised to be larger than previous years, making the events inevitable cancellation all the more disappointing for gamers and developers alike. At this time it is unknown if the event will be cancelled in its entirety, or delayed until later in 2020 or until early 2021.
